A while back, my friend Fiona posted an update that made more sense than most things I read on Twitter: “A girl can never own enough dresses. Ever. It’s a life long pursuit.” As I wholeheartedly agree, I conducted a search for some pieces to femme up my wardrobe a bit for Spring and Summer. Here are some of my finds/recommendations in a variety of shapes, styles, and price ranges:

Red Door Café
The great thing about walking around your neighborhood, as opposed to driving, is discovering cute little establishments like Red Door. Last weekend, as I was making a trek to Whole Foods for coffee and groceries, I noticed a huge crowd outside of the place and decided I had to try it out for myself after reading all of the favorable reviews on Yelp.

Running Around Ocean Beach and Beyond

This was actually taken with a D200. My friend Matt pointed it out as I was en route to dropping him off at his house. It should say "Smug" but someone changed it to "Smog." The location is 20th and Harrison.
I guess it’s no real secret that the iPhone (and other comparable handheld devices) has replaced full DSLRs and point-and-shoots as the go-to camera of choice in most situations. Unless you’re aiming for a high quality, professional-grade photo, there isn’t a strong argument for carrying around something that can’t easily fit into your pocket. This sentiment rings true for me when I go running at Ocean Beach – one of my favorite spots in SF to exert myself.

Patxi’s Chicago Pizza
For months and months, I’ve seen and heard people rave about Patxi’s Pizza on Twitter and IRL (in real life) and finally decided to check it out for myself. I’m originally from the East Bay Area where Zachary’s is our staple for deep dish pies. While their pizza is a delicious indulgence, the three locations are always overcrowded making the wait to be seated at least 45 minutes most of the time.

Happy Earth Day Cake
I saw this in the window of Kara’s Cupcakes (no, not my shop) when I was out running the other day and had to stop and take a shot of it with my favorite iPhone app. Speaking of, Mashable has just posted a list of 10 Earth Day apps. to help you “go green” and make a difference. If you live in SF, there are numerous ways to celebrate the occasion. Here’s to 40 years of progress on bettering our lives and the environment.

Shalimar in the Tenderloin
If you’ve lived in San Francisco as long as I have, chances are you’ve been on a bad date, or two, probably more like three and so on…you get the idea. However, not all has to be lost. If it wasn’t for one particularly “interesting” experience, I might have never been introduced to the magical restaurant known as Shalimar.

Red Hill Books

I’ve been doing some research on the “secret” stairways scattered all over San Francisco and, needless to say, the info I’ve come across online isn’t as comprehensive as I’d like. Usually when I travel abroad, I make it a habit to pick up a guide book and since they’ve always been so helpful, I figured the same logic could easily apply to this local excursion.

Wedding Weekend at The Westin St. Francis

One of my earliest childhood memories was moving out to California from Illinois when I was five years old. I was terribly sad to leave my friends behind in the Midwest until my Mom said “Kara, there’s a nice little girl that lives right down the street.” As soon as the moving truck pulled up in the driveway of our new house, I immediately jumped out and ran down the street. I still remember every detail of that day including us repeatedly telling each other our phone numbers, trying to memorize them, and our exasperated Moms finally writing it all down for us. The rest, as they say, is history.

Save SF Street Food
You know those nights where you have a bit too much to drink and stumble out onto the street in search of some sustenance to keep you somewhat coherent? I used to know them all too well. The one thing I especially appreciated during those times were the street food carts strategically set up outside some of my favorite haunts offering a diverse array of tasty and affordable food.
One year ago, a carpenter looking to make some extra money on the side founded the Creme Brulee Cart ushering in a new era of gourmet street eats. At $3 apiece, the desserts were an instant success and now, on any given night, you can find a line of at least 30+ people patiently waiting for their choice of a traditional, smores, or frosted flake-flavored dish of the rich french custard.
