It’s Time to Recharge

Fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice has the tendency to aggravate your sinuses. For me, it has the opposite effect. Mine are now cleared up.

The month of March was exhilarating on many levels. However, it’s also probably been one of the most booze-fueled I’ve had since my college days. My body has reacted accordingly and this past week, I decided to do myself a favor and drag my lethargic rear end down to Haight Street Market for some fresh fruits and vegetables to juice up and consume on a daily basis.

Bachelorette Weekend with My Ladies

The courtyard inside the Venetian hotel was decorated with vibrant umbrellas - a nice touch just in time for spring.

In all honesty, the last thing I wanted to do was leave San Francisco for Las Vegas a week after I returned from a debaucherous Austin trip. Talk about bad timing. But, for a close college friend and one of the most genuine people I know, I was more than willing to suck it up despite my unfavorable opinions about Sin City.

Album Review for AM

AM - Future Sons & Daughters

Every once in awhile, when I get a break from my hectic schedule, I do a live show write-up or album review for one of my favorite websites. Spinning Platters, a local non-profit music blog, has an incredibly dedicated, not to mention intelligent, staff of people that consistently bring you the best, most innovative stories and features from the vibrant music scene in the Bay Area. Don’t believe me? I personally challenge you to dream up something more ingenious than Fauxchella – NorCal’s answer to Indio’s three-day festival in mid-April.

If I wasn’t heading out to Vegas tomorrow night, I’d be going to see AIR perform at Fox Theater in Oakland. Opening up for them is Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter AM. If you’re interested in what lies in store before the French electro pop duo takes the stage, read a review of his latest album, Sons & Daughters, here.

When it’s Time to Co-Work, it’s Time for Coffee Bar

The SF Muni bus lot resides a few blocks away. Someone took a B&W photo, blew it up, and framed separate sections. It's a great decoration that hangs over the main counter.

As I sit in Sugar Cafe, working another late night and silently cursing myself for not setting up a better Internet connection in my studio, my mind is envisioning my absolute favorite place to co-work in San Francisco.

Marc by Marc Jacobs on Fillmore

Wallets and clutches come in an assortment of shapes, sizes, and prices.

If I need to find a chic outfit for a special occasion, like an upcoming bachelorette party in Vegas, or birthday/thank you gifts, I usually stop into Marc by Marc Jacobs on Fillmore. The funky accessories including heart-shaped compact mirrors for $5, neon totes that remind me of the Benetton ones during childhood, and clutches as low as $16 make you feel a little less guilty about picking up an item or two on the racks. The distinctive, beautifully intricate patterns that constitute Marc Jacobs’ clothing render decision making and self-control quite a difficult feat.

SXSW Afterthoughts

My friend Nate Bolt said it best this morning: “I don’t know if I ever want to leave, and I don’t think I can stay any longer.” That’s how I’m feeling right about now. Not to say I haven’t had an amazing ride. From working with the team at Mashable to being inspired by Natalie Villalobos, who is using Google Maps and Square technology to save a chunk of the rainforest, I’ve seen how the best and brightest work together to leave an indelible mark on the world.

Banana House

Mango curry with chicken.

Anyone who knows me well wouldn’t be too surprised by the fact that I started a blog about loving San Francisco right before embarking on a two-week trip to Austin. Pretty typical. However, right before I left, I made it a point to have dinner at one of the best, and most affordable, Thai restaurants in the city.

24 Hours in Austin

At the MashBash on Sunday night.

This is my first time performing guest blogger duty and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the opportunity to contribute to local social bible Republic of Austin. I need to correct the person who asked me to contribute, however. Chris Apollo Lynn and I did meet at a WordPress party but it was many, many years ago. That being said, he is one of the few people I’ve felt comfortable developing an online friendship with since we have so many incredible friends in common.

Click below to read about a day in Austin starring, among other things, the pandemonium at the SXSW convention center, 4-Hour Workweek author Tim Ferris, Pete Cashmore, The MashBash, Beauty Bar, and a movie theater that allows you to order whatever you’d like. This has been an amazing trip and it’s not even halfway over yet.

South by South Best

Nikola Tesla was a true visionary. Besides the Tesla Coils seen here, he is also responsible for the creation of electrical generators, FM radio, remote control, robots, spark plugs, and fluorescent lights - to name a few.

Even though I got a bit of a late start today, I feel like it’s one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I am one of the lucky few chosen by Mashable to take some video footage for their annual SXSWi MashBash which takes place tonight at Buffalo Billiards. I also get to upload my photos and add any message I’d like to them. They’ll get streamed live at the party and the girls I met today that work for Sony, who provided us with the HDR cameras, want to use our material in some of their social media efforts as well. Personally, I think it’s good exposure for me since I’m just starting out with this blog.

So Many Reasons to Fall in Love with Austin…

Very true.

If I didn’t or couldn’t live in San Francisco, I’d probably establish a permanent residence in Austin. While more akin to Berkeley than SF, it has many charming qualities including warm, friendly people, affordable housing, beautiful weather, and an abundance of healthy + incredibly affordable food.

Before I hit up my first SXSW event last night, I made sure to tag along with a friend I met, while we both lived in San Francisco, who is now an Austin native. She always has a knack of being in-the-know when it comes to the best spots or hidden gems and I got to experience a few of them today…
